So, the suspicion that this new product is copying the King Size version of cigarettes is fuelled by the same set of varieties. These are Blue and Silver.

The packs differ only in their smaller size, in line with the slightly more miniature format of the cartridge cases, but…. In fact, the difference is in the details) At first glance, the packs do look identical, but in fact the ‘compact’ versions only resemble the KS in the colours used. The Cavana Origin has slightly different image details, for example, there is a steam locomotive in the label).

The advantage of the new product is that it is made in Korea, which already distinguishes it favourably from what can be ‘assembled’ in Kaluga. I do not want to say anything bad about Russian production, but the same Bohem cigarillos are very different in quality from Korean versions. Alas, but not for the better.

The price of ‘compacts’ is of course lower, at the time of writing the review both varieties cost $ 5 and this is a confident middle price category. How worthy are they of it? We will soon find out)

And of course, this version is united with the rest of the brand by a single ‘legend’. It is complemented by the graphic image itself, which makes the cigarette pack more attractive.

Bohem Cavana Origin Blue. Before moving on to a detailed review of the variety, I would like to say that despite the bevelled corners of the package, in the process of use, it turned out to be no less durable than the KS’d version. This is despite the fact that the cardboard of the ‘compact’ is still a little thinner.

The aroma from the packet is similar to the same bouquet as the KS version, but it seems a bit muted. Overall, though, it’s the same tobacco spirit with a slight fruity sweetness. If the design of the casings repeats the design of the KS version, but the constructional features of the ‘compact’ have their own. Although moderately dense filling, filter perforation and light sweetness of its paper are the same.

The differences of the ‘compact’ lie in the construction of the filter. It is a pair of sections made of acetate fibre, where one of them is represented by a mouthpiece. By the way, here in the ‘compact’ version the density of weaving of the one-piece section is the same in both varieties.

But the appearance of the sack itself in the casings is only similar to what I showed you in KS. There are definitely more dark leaf fragments here, while light yellow ones are clearly in the minority. The base of the blend is represented by dark yellow and almost brown ribbons and flakes. The light particles are a small addition to the blend. Tar-characteristics of the smoke I don’t know, but relatively small volume of veins can speak about modern about medium strength.

Blue’s smoke itself is more vigorous, I would even say sharper, and yes, there is pepper in the bouquet. Moreover, the pepper note is not a background addition, it is the leading tone of the whole bouquet. Here the second plan is filled with shades of dry wood, faint fruit sweetness and literally a shadow of sourness of fresh dough. However, with all the vivacity of the smoke, its strength is not great and most likely it is the same ‘six’, the same as in the KS variant of the variety.

Bohem Cavana Origin Silver. Having found out that the new ‘compacts’ are not a ‘mirror’ of KS already and Silver was more interesting to try. Although it is logical to assume that this is a light version of the ‘blue’ variety.

The aroma from the packet is light, as expected, but the sweet fruity tone is more noticeable here. In general, it is quite a pleasant flavour, but its intensity is certainly not high. The design of the cartridges repeats the style of the ‘big brother’ in the King Size format, with its own details, of course, and structurally the cigarettes do not differ from the ‘compact’ Blue.

This bag here is more similar to the Bohem Libre Silver line-up, though certainly not identical. Compared to the previous variety, there are slightly more light yellow fragments. And the ratio of veins to tobacco is exactly the same. So it is not clear how KT&G technologists regulate the strength in this variety, because the filters are the same in both versions. This is if Silver is really just a ‘light’ version of Blue.

The smoke itself is richer and also definitely more vigorous than the same Silver in king size format. But the flavour bouquet is more similar to the ‘compact’ Blue. I would even say that it is exactly the same smoke, but the pepper here is purely nominal, and all the flavour components ‘sound’ a little more muted. The sweetness of the filter helps to compensate not high intensity of flavour aromatics and somewhat smoothes out the peppery vivacity of Silver. At the same time, the sweetness is not sugary at all, it just turned out to be more noticeable in this variety. The strength of the smoke is perceived slightly lower than that of Blue, but in general they are more similar than radically different.

What’s the bottom line? Decent cigarettes for every day. And, no, this is not a ‘mirror’ of the King Size version. Both varieties have not only a different set of flavours, but also the smoke itself, its character. We can recommend this version of Bohem to those who find the classic version too soft. Here, the smoke has no shortage of vivacity, and the flavour is quite bright. And what is remarkable, there are no rubbish notes in the flavour of both varieties, no aromatics and no pronounced sauce. And this alone makes the new ‘compacts’ very competitive in their niche.
